The Fulani's strike again in Agogo

Posted on December 1, 2010 at 8:00 PM

A very good source reaching us indicates that, tension is gradually mounting up in the Agogo, Brahabebome area where most of the Fulani herdsmen occupy. Only last week, I learnt that the herdsmen destroyed some farms within the Brahabebome area. The following day after the destructions occurred, a Fulani herdsman was shot dead and some of the residents in that area were arrested. On the third day, there was another shooting leading to the death of yet another Fulani herdsman. In another incident, some Fulani herdsmen ambushed two young men who were on their way to the farm and saw a dead cow lying by. As one of the young men drew the attention of his friend to the dead cow, the Fulani's suddenly emerged from the bush and started molesting these young men beating them up mercilessly. Sensing danger and death these young men faked to be dead and that was when they Fulani’s left them thinking they were dead. The situation is very alarming as was described by the MCE who visited the area after the initial incident. The people of Brahabebome, I learnt, have vowed not to allow the Fulani’s to cross over their village as they are heavily armed.

On a related matter, prior to these latest incidents, letters had been circulated to various government agencies responsible for security matters which includes, Minister for the Interior, Director for National Security, Attorney Generals Department, Office of the President, Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs and the Regional Minister for Ashanti region. However, no responses had been received to these letters as at the time of writing this report.. I spoke with the interim leader of the Agogo Mmama Kuo of Agogo, formerly, Agogo Development Task Force and was informed that a group called Policy Brief with support from Scanfuel Company that is undertaking farming project near Dukusen area have given a strong indication to assist the course of the Agogo citizens in fighting to get rid of the Fulani herdsmen from our farming lands. They assured the Agogo Mmamakuo that they will provide a number of big buses to carry people from Agogo to go to Accra to demonstrate in the streets to press home our resolve to have the government drive the herdsmen from our area.

We invite all Agogo citizens in Diaspora to throw their weight behind to fight these Fulani herdsmen from Agogo since they are destroying the town we cherished.
