Who we are

The objective was to organize all citizens of Agogo and its surrounding areas living in Washington Metropolitan area to unite in order to support one another. Serve as a non­profit and non-political organization seeking to enhance the social, educational, moral and general welfare of its members. Solicit and donate to other non-profit Organizations and schools in Agogo and Ghana at large. Assist in diverse ways to improve upon the beauty and standard of living of our people in Agogo, as well as her environs and Ghana as a whole. Founding members are as follows:

Mr. Emmanuel Obeng Amoako, Mrs. Gertrude Amoako, Mr. & Mrs. Samuel Anyang Kusi, Mr. & Mrs. Stephen Amoah, Ms. Esther Ofori-Darkwa, Ms. Christiana Oduro, Mr. & Mrs. J.K Preko, Mr. & Mrs. Amoako Nketia, Mr. Emmanuel Amo-Adu, Mr. Adjabeng Manful, Mr. Michael Amoako, Mr. & Mrs. Ampomah Mensah, Mr. Boakye Yiadom, Mr. Kwaku Amponsem, Mr. & Mrs. Obeng Oware, Mr. & Mr. Dennis Opoku, Ms. Grace Anyan Kusi, Ms. Rosina Boamah Kusi, Mr. Twum Ampofo, Mrs. Sally Amoah, Mr. Gottfried Amoh.

A committee of 6 was appointed to draft the constitution of the Association comprising Messer's Emmanuel Obeng Amoako, Anyang- Kusi, Kwaku Amponsem, Emmanuel Amo-Adu, Kwabena Manful and-Mrs. Gertrude Amoako.

The first general election was held on May 30th 1993. Where the following persons were elected as officers to run the administration of the Association;

  7. Mr. Stephen Amoako (Wofa K. Manu)    - Public Relations
  8. Ms. Christiana Oduro                  - Assistant Public Relations
  9. Mr. Stephen Amoako                  - Welfare Officer 
  10. Mr. Emmanuel Amoh Adu - Member
  11. Ms. Grace Anyan Kusi                    - Member
  12. Mr. J.K. Preko                           - Organizer

 The Agogo Citizens Association was inaugurated on October 8, 1994.

General meetings are held on the last Sunday of each month. Initially, volunteers usually requested to host the General meetings at their residence. At a general meeting in February, 1994 it was agreed that meetings were to be held at the chairman's residence. Between 1999 and 2000 general meetings were held at meeting room of Marrigate apartment. Our next meeting place was 531 North Howard St. in Alexandria from 2001 to July, 2008.

The Association celebrated its 10th Anniversary on September 6th 2003 at the ABC Auditorium. Invited personalities included, Nana Kwame Akuoko Sarpong, Omanhene of Agogo Traditional area, Nana Bonti Marfo, Adontenhene of Agogo, Honorable Minister for Education, youth and Sports, the Late Mr. Kwadwo Baah Wiredu. Musicians were Abrantie Amakye Dede and Ofori Amponsah.
